Numerical simulation of dam-breach flood waves

Abstract Dam breach due to the earthquake, Land sliding inside dam reservoir, overtopping as a result of intense precipitation in watershed are examples dangerous risks which flood caused by any them should be predicted suitable hydraulic or numerical models framework risk management plan. In present research, 2DHec-Ras model has been applied order modeling Sattarkhan dam. This is North West Iran, located 15 km from west Ahar city, East Azerbaijan province, Iran. The downstream part city studied considering population and infrastructures this district according two different scenarios failure. first scenario includes piping flow failure profile with steep side walls while second consists inclined sidewalls main cause breaching. centers have selected area field facts. maximum depth reaches up 9.1 m for 7.1 at Islamic Azad University Tabriz-Ahar road, respectively. results show notable some Furthermore, arrival time flood, recession time, velocities targeted areas preparing emergency action plans calculated.
